Preparing for your In-home Newborn Session
All your questions answered
Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, there’s no denying that you want to remember all of the first few days and weeks. And it’s such a privilege to be trusted with your precious newborn. As a retired pediatric nurse/nurse practitioner, you can rest assured that your baby’s safety is my top priority while I capture all your newborn moments.
Each lifestyle newborn session is as unique as your baby. A Day in the Life session is designed to do just that; to capture your family as it is right now. At this phase of life, your day probably looks like this; feed the baby, change the baby, bathe the baby, and repeat.
Through a simple questionnaire that I will have your answer, I can learn more about your family and customize your session just for you!

Let’s get started
If you’re like me, you hated homework when you were a kid. But now that your session is booked, I have some homework for you.
I want you to take a few minutes to really think about the things you want to remember most about this time. Is it how your older child can’t stop touching the baby? Maybe you’ve discovered that the baby’s favorite spot is on mom or dad’s chest. Maybe it’s how baby loves bathtime. Those are the little things that are so precious. So, what is it that you love to do with your newborn?
Whatever it is, let’s plan to capture those moments. I promise those are the moments that you’re going treasure.
Choosing what to wear
You just had a baby, and that’s a big adjustment for everyone in the family. So, there’s no need to stress about what to wear. Just come as you are. If your idea of fashion is jeans and matching socks, that’s okay. Maybe you’re more refined and never leave home without looking your best. That’s okay too.
If you really want to show the little ones’ personalities, how about letting them choose what to wear?
You may have noticed that newborn clothes often don’t fit very well. So I think that a plain white onesie or your jammies are perfect for baby. We will also likely get some images in just a diaper. After all, you’re going to want to remember those rolls and dimples.
These images aren’t about what you’re wearing. They are about what you’re feeling.
But if you still want some tips on what to wear, here are a few. Neutral colors are timeless and photograph beautifully. Bright, neon colors can cast a color glow onto faces.

But what about the older kids?
Let’s face it; your session is likely to revolve around the kids!
What do I mean by this? Little ones are unpredictable, so it’s impossible to plan for everything. Some siblings can’t get enough of their new baby brother or sister, and some want nothing to do with the new baby. I know you may have a vision of the perfect shot of your toddler holding his new baby sister, but that may not happen. But we will capture beautiful images that show the connection to your new little one.
So if your toddler’s bouncing on the bed while you’re cuddling the newborn, don’t stress. That’s what your real life looks like!
Tips for making sure siblings are at their best
• Allow time at the beginning of the session for the kids to warm up.
• Make sure your session is the highlight of the day.
• Make sure there are no hungry tummies.
• Plan sessions around nap time so little ones will be rested.
• Don’t fret if the older kids don’t want to be in every photo.
• Let them help pick out an outfit. They will be more comfortable. Don’t worry if they choose something you wouldn’t. Let them express themselves.
• The best way to ensure that your kids are at their best is just to relax and have fun.

Session day is here!
Your big day is finally here! I’ll be at your home at the agreed-upon time. (Who am I kidding? I’ll be out front 30 minutes early because I hate to be late.)
Sessions typically last 90-120 minutes, and there’s no need to rush. It usually takes a few minutes for us to get acquainted and comfortable with each other. I like to say that newborn sessions are baby-led. What I mean by that is that I take my lead from the newborn. If the little one needs to eat or be changed, that’s what we’ll do.
Expect to cuddle, snuggle, and have a fun-filled session
As a natural light photographer, I’ll be sure to find the areas in your home with the best light. Plan to have all of the blinds and curtains open and the lights off.
Don’t worry if the older kids are owild and crazy. I aim to capture your family, crazy kids, and all! I want you to look back at our time together and remember what a great time you had as a family.
Have peace of mind knowing you hired a professional and are in good hands.

“For all the things my hands have held the best by far is you.”
