A little about me
I’m a wife to my supportive and loving husband, David. I’m Mom to four wildly different, but all amazing, grown children. And I’m Gigi to my 3-year-old granddaughter. I’m introverted and shy until I get to know you. I love reading and watching reality TV. I’m an optimist and usually see the glass as half-full. I love being outdoors, and many weekends you’ll find me walking around the city, hiking, or biking. I’m fascinated with human nature and what makes people tick. And I love photographs. They instantly take me back to the moment they were captured. My walls are filled with images of my family and of my travels. My passion is giving my clients images they can treasure and pass on to future generations.
When I fell in love with photography
I’ve loved photography since I was a teenager. I remember having a polaroid camera and taking pictures of everything and nothing. But I’ve loved photographs for as long as I can remember. My dad was a photographer for Olin Mills when I was born. In fact, I still have one of his props, a small wooden chair. I remember lying on the floor looking through my mom’s photo albums when I was young. It was something I could do for hours.
Photography wasn’t my first career. I was a pediatric nurse/nurse practitioner for 21 years. During that time, I photographed family and friends on the side. I even had a studio in my home for about a year after my oldest left for college. When my husband and I moved to California five years ago, I retired from nursing. It just seemed to be the perfect time to focus on photography full-time. Four years ago, I officially started my business, and it has continued to grow each year.
Why I love photographing families
I was really shy growing up and didn’t always feel like I fit in. I probably still feel that way at times, truth be told. But when I looked at our family photos, I could see where I fit. I saw the people that loved me and accepted me. I think it’s important for everyone to feel like they have a place where they belong, and I love giving my clients images that show their family’s bond and connection to each other, and I enjoy being able to help my clients tell their stories.
My favorite location to capture families and why
I love capturing families in their homes. Our homes are often where we are the most comfortable and at ease. And when clients are comfortable, and at ease, their personalities really shine.
As my children have gotten older, I have become more aware of the photographs that I really love. They are the ones that give me the “feels.” The ones that show what they were really like when they were younger. One of my favorite photographs of my youngest son is one where he was making me dinner in the kitchen in his room. He’s wearing a paper chef’s hat and holding a tray of wooden food. My heart still melts every time I see it.
Home sessions allow me to capture moments like this for my clients, moments I know they are going to treasure when they look back at them.
