Dressing for Summer Photos
The summer sun is finally here, and the kids are out of school. That means it’s time to start planning your family’s outdoor photography sessions! But before you do, there are a few things you need to take into consideration—namely, what to wear. Here are a few tips to help you pick out the perfect outfits for your summer photography session so that you can focus on having fun and making memories.
Consider the Location
The first thing you need to think about when choosing your outfits is the location of your session. Are you going to be in a park? Comfy shoes and outfits the kids can play in are a must. Or perhaps you envision a session on the beach? Why not kick off your shoes and dip your toes in the water? Be sure to choose an outfit that you don’t mind getting wet. After all, what fun is the beach without splashing?
Since the weather in the Bay Area can be chilly, even during the summer, don’t forget to throw a jacket, sweater, or blanket in your bag. It’s hard to relax and have fun when you’re freezing.
Consider your Activity
Your outdoor lifestyle session can include hiking your favorite trail, flying a kite in the park, or strolling through your favorite neighborhood. Be sure to choose an outfit that allows you to have fun doing what you love.
Coordinate, but Don’t Match
Once you’ve decided on the location and activity for your session, it’s time to start putting together some outfit options. Unless your family routinely wears matching outfits, it’s probably best not to go matchy-matchy. You want each person to show their own sense of style, and comfort is key. Consider letting the little ones choose their own outfits. Get creative and have fun with it!
If you do want to make sure that everyone is coordinating, a great way to achieve this is by picking one or two colors that everyone will wear in different ways. For example, if everyone in the family likes blue, one person could wear a navy dress while another could sport a light blue button-down shirt.
Accessorize!
Don’t forget about accessories! They can really help pull an outfit together and add a pop of personality. Sunglasses, hats, scarves, and jewelry are all great options. Your family is unique, and what you choose to wear for your photos will showcase that.
Dressing for your summer photography session doesn’t have to be difficult. Just keep the location in mind, coordinate without matching too closely, and don’t forget to accessorize! With these tips in mind, you’re sure to find the perfect outfits for your family’s big day.
