Choosing What To Wear For Your Next Session
Once your family photography session is booked, one fun (but tough!) decision to make is deciding what to wear. Maybe growing up, your family was the one that always opted for the same-color polo shirts or jeans and white shirts. Those days are over! Choosing a wardrobe may feel daunting, but it’s actually effortless to get a group coordinated.
Here are a few tips to get you started!
First, pick a color palette, not just a single color. For example, a blue/green palette could be blues, dark greens, and some denim. Neutrals, such as white, cream, or grey art timeless and can be paired with another solid color, like mustard yellow or green apple. Avoid neon colors. Keep in mind that not every family member has to have all of the colors in their outfits, but make sure everyone coordinates with each other slightly, so everything pulls together.
Second, avoid large prints or patterns. Small prints or patterns work well. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and texture. Avoid large logos or thick stripes.
Third, try and have similar styles. Either choose a more formal, buttoned-up look or maybe have everyone in a more relaxed t-shirt and jeans style, but try to keep consistent.
Fourth, if you’re still having trouble choosing a color scheme, look around your house at the décor. When you hang pictures of your family on your wall, what are the colors in that room? Choose colors that coordinate with the surroundings / décor around your house.
Fifth, don’t forget your accessories and shoes. Adding a scarf, hat, or unique jewelry can spice up your outfit. Choose shoes that will work with your location. You don’t want stiletto heels during a beach session.
Finally, check out Pinterest. It’s a great way to help you visualize your look ahead of time. You can even lookup outfit ideas by color.
